may update on nysta #3: when goblins rage
Well, it’s been a longer ride than I expected for Nysta #3: When Goblins Rage. Thanks to a job which keeps me working odd hours, and weekends which are sucking up my time in other ways, I haven’t had as much time as I wanted to spend on working on this book. It’s very frustrating for me.
However, it’s still plodding ahead and I’m relatively happy with it. Also relieved I’ve got Nysta #4: Blade of the Vampire King already written.
In the past month, thanks to a rewrite, I’ve been adding a lot. I’ve added a new character as… Continue reading
when goblins rage: april update
I’m still working hard on Nysta #3: When Goblins Rage. That’s right. Fantasy’s most foul-mouthed and violent elf is returning to do what she does best: get stabby.
This time, she’s not chasing anyone. It seems the hunter has become the hunted, as Grey Jackets pursue her from the ruins of Grimwood Creek. Goblins, too, seem to want her dead. And then there’s Eli. A hunter with a mind to see which one of them is the best with the knife.
There will be war. There will be hatred, and betrayal.
And, finally, a duel to the death.
I’ve had… Continue reading
nysta #3: when goblins rage – second stage progress
Well, I’ve made it into the second stage of writing Nysta #3: When Goblins Rage, which is the re-writing. I’ll rewrite this twice (to catch out any errors in continuity and whatnot, I hope), and then move into editing. It’s all downhill from here, which is nice. I simply feel there’s a few bumps I want to smooth down before considering editing.
And on that note, I’ve placed an order with the awesome Amir Zand for the next cover. Amir is simply brilliant. The covers so far have made my jaw drop, and each idea he has seems to get… Continue reading
current progress on nysta #3: when goblins rage
I thought I’d drop another note to update you on the current progress on Nysta #3: When Goblins Rage.
I’m currently going through the second draft. I’ve had to rewrite a few key scenes, and now I’m working a little on tone and colour. This book is all about Nysta trying to recover from the shock of losing her husband and killing her brother. She’s tormented and at the same time she’s struggling to find her direction. What to do now? She’s also got echoes of the curse inside her.
I’m trying to give a more confused and, somewhat, fragile… Continue reading
progress update on next nysta book: when goblins rage
Time for a progress update on When Goblins Rage, the next in the Nysta series. First: it really is on its way. It’s just moving a little more slower than expected thanks to some crazy shift work I’ve been doing through November-January. It’s left me only weekends to be able to write, unfortunately.
However, I had a pretty good weekend this weekend, and managed to churn out a few more chapters. There’s only a couple more to go and then I can get on with the rewrite. Which is, usually, a lot quicker. Then it’s a few rounds of editing… Continue reading
a look back at 2012 – a great year for heroic fantasy
Wow. 2012 has been a good year to me.
In May, I released Revenge of the Elf, the first Nysta book. I released it without much fuss or marketing. I expected it to go nowhere. But in the first few weeks, it surprised me. Surprised me because it seemed people were reading it. And it wasn’t so much the reading part that surprised me. It was the liking part, because they were liking it, even if it wasn’t voted one of the Best Heroic Fantasy Books of 2012. Which it should have. It at least should have been recognised as… Continue reading
nysta #3: when goblins rage – delayed to january
Well, I’ve had to admit gracious defeat.
I’ve recently changed employment and the shift changes and then some illness has forced me to put back the release of Nysta #3. But hopefully only until January. I am hoping, then, it will be one of the best new release fantasy novels for January 2013. Here’s to hope!
So far I’m still on the first draft, but once that’s complete, it’s a fairly speedy process for me. And, as a bit of good news, it’s worth knowing that ‘Nysta #4: Blade of the Vampire King’ is already written and in the bag.… Continue reading
heeeeeeeeeere’s goblins
Happy to announce I wrote the first chapter with my new goblin mob in it. And I think it’s awesome.
Just want to leave you a small (unedited) extract:
****
And she dropped with a startled yelp.
Expected the rope to snap tight with a savage jerk, but instead she fell to the ground and landed hard on her ankle. Twisted inelegantly and lay in a broken heap, rubbing at her throat with one hand while trying to pull Go With My Blessing free.
But before she could twist toward the old goblin she found him above her, the heavy… Continue reading
october progress on nysta #3: when goblins rage
I got a new job last week and have just finished my first week of training. It’s been an exciting change. And I’m sure you think that has slowed me down. Well, it hasn’t.
I’m into the sixth chapter of the first write-up of book #3, so I’m still on track for a hopeful Xmas release. When Goblins Rage will have much to offer it. And I’m hoping you’ll enjoy that as much as you have, if not more, than the previous two. There’s action aplenty as Nysta struggles with the internal conflict of leaving her past behind, and the… Continue reading
‘when goblins rage’ starts with a bang
I’m into the first draft of When Goblins Rage as we speak. Just taking a few moments to enjoy the afternoon. I start a new job next week, so anticipate a few less hours to myself. Especially considering I just got my copy of Joe Abercrombie’s latest book. Exciting! But in the meantime, I will be attempting a 3-day write of the first draft. It can be done. It’s all there in my head ready to come out.
And it starts with a bang. Unlike the previous two books which spent a few chapters exploring moments, this one jumps into… Continue reading
