creepy and hatboy – the summertime blues

apparently there ain’t no cure. we’ve been sitting here, in the television room, watching old doctor who episodes for some way to deal with davros, and also because there’s nothing else to do than watch him eat jelly babies. we considered calling him, but he’d never get here on time. i’ve been drinking a lot [...]
freeing the mind with freemind
To start with, I use two monitors. I can’t use one. On one monitor, I have OpenOffice which is for me a more useful and worthwhile program than the Microsoft alternative. Other than being free, it’s stripped down and more reliable, whilst still being able to save in Word format which is obviously required. I use OpenOffice for writing out the story. For plot, I use OpenOffice’s version of Excel. This has been helping me to structure my novel with meticulous care. I need it, because I’m a bit of a chaotician when I am not forcing myself into structured creativity. I lose the plot, so to speak, if I don’t have one carefully constructed.

He remembered hearing the Rockbiters talk about their berserk fighting technique.

That’s what they said.
Riplock glared into the purple eyes of the Northman and thought deep inside that glow he could see the Deadspore itself, squirming in the man’s skull, and something inside the Hobgoblin just snapped.
world creation – art or science?

It is almost as if Tolkien created a history book from which fantasy could refer to in the same way Gemmell referred to Roman or British history books. Not quite stealing, but more adapting and moving a few things around. That way you keep the basic feel and elements, but you create your own world which is both distinctive and easy for the reader to relate to because, thanks to the viral effects of Tolkien, they know everything they need to about Elves and Dwarves now. You don’t need to provide endless history, language and extreme depths to these characters because Tolkien already did it for us.
